Our Story

The serendipitous start to the Athol Kindness Connection began with the Athol Congregational Church's "Year of Kindness" in Athol, MA in 2023.  A simple Facebook post asked, "How can we get a senior support village started in Athol?  We could really use one!" and someone else replied, "Ask those 'Kindness People', I bet they would be interested!"  This was followed up another individual sending a letter to the church asking us to consider the possibility of starting a village, and we recognized that perhaps we were being guided toward something both necessary and important.  Inquiries were made, research was performed, and a committed team of 10 people determined that it was time to act.

With sponsorship of free office space offered by the church, a new non-profit entity was formed, a Board was gathered, and the long arduous process of development and fundraising was undertaken.

Athol Kindness Connection (AKC) is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer organization that serves older adults in the Athol area who need assistance so that they may remain independent and age-in-place as long as possible in the comfort of their own homes.  Providing non-medical assistance with household tasks that might prove to be challenging as someone ages, Athol Kindness Connection will pair volunteers with older adults who need assistance with such things as changing light bulbs, flipping mattresses, seasonal installation of window air conditions, transportation for medical appointments and social engagements, and much, much more.  We are a community of neighbors helping neighbors, ensuring that all can not just survive, but thrive.

Helping neighbors age at home...but not alone!
